Challenges & Mitigations

Challenge

One of the main challenges of the project was to replace the Main LV Switch Panel and Miniform distribution equipment, which served several buildings and were spread across them, without interrupting critical electrical power to emergency 999 call centres and other sensitive areas.

Mitigation

To overcome the challenge of replacing the Main LV Switch Panel and Miniform distribution equipment without interrupting critical electrical power to emergency 999 call centers and other sensitive areas, the project team implemented an element of enabling works to provide uninterrupted temporary electrical power. The team also conducted pre-contract meetings to identify project success factors, key roles and structure responsibilities, and develop a 'One Team' approach based on ISO 44001.

Challenge

The project also involved working in a live hospital without causing inconvenience or disturbance to staff or patients, and following COVID-19 guidelines on NHS sites.

Mitigation

Resource requirements, health and safety considerations, and necessary training were identified through on-site visits where risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) were developed. Contract-specific training was delivered to staff and patients of the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, including COVID-19 safety protocols and best practices. Through constant communication with the Board and associated stakeholders, the team ensured they were providing the best service possible and measured outcomes through customer satisfaction, performance management, corrective and preventive action processes, and reviewing/auditing procedures.
